Ready to take on a rewarding role in global healthcare? Become a registered nurse with strong clinical skills and heart!

The Bachelor of Health Care, Nursing degree programme at Diak prepares you to become a compassionate, highly skilled registered nurse capable of delivering high-quality patient care in multidisciplinary healthcare environments. You will acquire a skill set to operate in a variety of healthcare settings, from open counselling centres to intensive care units.

Comprehensive Theoretical Basis and Extensive Clinical Practice

The studies focus on clinical nursing, health promotion, disease prevention, pharmacology, and patient safety.

  • Based on caring and nursing science, the curriculum includes multidisciplinary elements from natural sciences (such as anatomy and physiology, medicine and pharmacology) as well as social and behavioural sciences.
  • A central part of the programme is practical training, which accounts for a significant share of the studies. Clinical training takes place in diverse healthcare settings across Finland, equipping you with the practical skills needed to operate in a wide variety of environments, from open counselling centres to specialized units and intensive care.
  • The studies are conducted in close co-operation with working life through, for example, projects carried out both individually and in groups. Diak graduates are well employed in Finland.
  • Extension studies enable you to deepen your expertise development in the specialty area of nursing. You can combine both theoretical and practical aspects in areas such as child, adolescent and family nursing or polyclinical care.

EU-Recognized Qualification and Global Career Opportunities

The degree will qualify you as a Registered Nurse with EU competence. You can choose to work with children, youth, adults or elderly in Finland, the rest of the Nordic countries or further abroad.

Finnish Language Studies

While the language of instruction is English, the programme includes mandatory Finnish language studies to support your practical training in Finnish healthcare environments and to enhance your future employment opportunities in Finland.

When I started the studies, I wasn’t aware of all the possibilities that are available for a nursing graduate. The training, especially, made me realise that the work is very diverse.

Just make a move. If I have to describe Diak in three words, I would say equality, respect and care for others. Diak is so special to me and I really appreciate Diak because of its sense of community. It feels inclusive, especially as an international student I have felt supported by the teachers and other students, and this makes a big difference."</p> <p>Staff member / Lecturer: "Diak, in a nutshell, I would describe as a university that has a great sense of values and ethical thinking in everything that we do. We take every student as an individual, not only as a student but as a person. That is very important to us."</p> <p>Student: "The nursing program is so rewarding. We have a lot of simulations, workshops, practical trainings, which is quite interesting because you get to go to practical training in different fields. And at the end of the day, you can choose the path in nursing that you want to specialize in."</p> <p>Staff member / Lecturer: "Diak students learn from the program, not only an ethical way of thinking and how they take care of people, but they also learn respect and compassion in the way that they encounter patients in different work life settings. Diak students are valued very much in working life, not only for the skills that they are able to do, but also the way that they are as co-workers or how they are with the patients or clients. So that the way that they are acting in the field is very respected. Anyone can thrive in Diak if they are willing to learn and open to different kinds of possibilities. Of course, they are supported in each step of the learning progress."</p> <p>Student: "Everyone is welcome. Yeah, don't hang back. Just make a move."</p>
