Students’ IT services

Need help with Diakle? Is the campus printer out of order? IT services will help you!

The IT department assists Diak students in all questions related to our IT systems and equipment and offers advice on equipment acquisitions and operation. The service is available at all of our campuses.

Instructions

Instructions for using Diak’s IT programmes can be found in the guide portal:

IT support

In case of critical problems, we recommend calling the service number. Otherwise, we would prefer service requests via the service portal or by email.

If you notice malfunctions in the IT systems or problems with technical devices, please contact IT support. You can also send us comments, feedback and development suggestions related to ICT issues.

Contact IT support if you notice problems with Diak’s AV equipment, printers, local network, user ID or student email.

We cannot provide support for problems with users’ own devices, but we will do our best to help with study-related IT issues related to their own devices. For example, installation of the Microsoft 365 suite, connecting laptops and phones to Diak’s network, and various problems accessing Diak’s systems with your own devices are things that we are happy to guide you on.

We also help both students and visitors connect their own devices to our AV systems.

IT quick links and instructions for students

User credentials

Students login to all Diak systems with their username in c12345@student.diak.fi format, with c12345 replaced by your own student username.

Your password to all Diak services is the same. You’ll find instructions for changing your password from this link.

Links to services

The links are in alphabetical order.

Problems with logging in? Contact IT services for help.

Diakle instructions

You can find your courses in Diakle in the My courses section in the upper right corner about two weeks before the course starts. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, it’s a good idea to contact the course teacher.

We recommend always using Google Chrome browser in Diakle.

For more Diakle instructions, see Guide Portal.

Zoom online lectures

You’ll find all Zoom-related guides on Guide Portal.

If a Zoom session has been created for your course, you can access it from the Diakle page of the course.

Microsoft 365 programmes

The main systems our students use include Diakle (Moodle) and Microsoft 365, as well as databases and e-books provided by the library through the Finna service. Computers available on Diak campuses are Windows PCs equipped with M365 in addition to basic software for common tasks.

When you login to the Microsoft 365 service with your Diak credentials, you’ll find an “Install and more” button at the top right, through which you’ll find installation options. If the M365 desktop apps are not supported on your device, there will be no button.

The M365 package includes Outlook, OneDrive, Teams and all classic Office apps. You can work with M365 directly on your browser, or you can download the more comprehensive desktop app package onto your device. Teams requires a separate installation. Your Microsoft 365 account and license are active as long as your student credentials are active.

The package will probably be installed in the same language that the download page is displayed as on your browser. You can check and change the language from the applications side menu before downloading.

All students have the same services available regardless of how or what they are studying.

Using our Guide Portal

The Guide Portal site serves guides and instructions to all our services for students and staff. That being said, the amount of guides in English is significantly smaller than in Finnish. If there is something sorely missing or inaccurate on the English side, please don’t hesitate to contact IT services, preferably by email.

Other instructions

For links to Finna and LibGuides, see the library’s page.

Diak Identity Service

All students and employees at Diak need to acquire their personal Diak user account. You need to activate your account yourself. After activation the account, which includes f. ex. access to your personal email and cloud storage, will remain available for as long as your study entitlement or employment at Diak is valid.

  • If you are a Degree Programme student at Diak, you can activate your account at the start of your first attending semester (from 3.1. or 3.8. onwards).
  • If you are pursuing other studies, you may activate your account two days after receiving your study entitlement, generally about two weeks before the start of studies at the latest.
  • If you are a member of staff, we’ll notify you by email when your account is ready to be activated.

Activate your account with the Diak Identity Service at id.diak.fi. Diak Identity Service uses Suomi.fi authentication, which in turn requires online banking IDs, a mobile certificate or a certificate card. By using Diak Identity Service, you accept the terms of use for Diak regulations for information and data networks users. When you activate your account, you will be able to set a password for your account.

Instructions for the use of Diak Identity Service can be found on Diak’s Guide Portal. More information and instructions for Suomi.fi authentication can be found on the Suomi.fi website.

If you do not have a Finnish personal identity number or identification tokens needed to use Suomi.fi

Diak Identity Service is not available for persons who do not have a Finnish personal identity number or any of the identification tokens required by Suomi.fi authentication (online banking IDs, a mobile certificate or a certificate card). If you cannot activate your user account due to this limitation

  • and you are a member of staff, please contact our ICT support (tuki@diak.fi). We will arrange an alternate method of confirming your identity and activating your account.
  • and you are a student at Diak, please contact us at Diak’s Study Office (opintotoimisto@diak.fi) well in advance before the start of your studies. We will arrange an alternate method of confirming your identity and activating your account.
I have forgotten my password! / I can’t access my account!

Your best course of action is to use the Diak Identity Service. If that causes problems, contact IT support.

Devices needed for studying

You’ll need a computer, preferably one that is not a Chromebook. There is a very limited amount of PC workstations on campuses, and from June 2024 onwards, there will no longer be laptop stations on campuses to borrow devices from.

We recommend using Google Chrome browser in all Diak services.

For remote studing, you should get a headset that you can connect to your computer. Usually laptops have a camera, microphone and speakers, but using them requires a private space with no noise.

Eduroam wifi

Students can use Eduroam wifi on campus.

1. Go to the geteduroam.app page and download Eduroam for your device.

2. Open the app, select Diaconia University of Applied Sciences from the list, and login with your short username (e.g. c12345 without the @ part).

For MacOS, you’ll have to install a .mobileconfig profile from another page, which also requires logging in with your short username.

Tuudo – a mobile app for students

Tuudo is a mobile app to make your student life simpler. On Tuudo, you can find important services for students:

  • Digital student ID card that you can use to prove that you are eligible for various services, such as Kela’s meal subsidy and VR and Matkahuolto discounts
  • Schedules
  • Your completed studies and grades
  • Campus maps
  • Diak’s student services
  • Student restaurant menus on your campus
  • Library card

Tuudo works on Android and iOS devices. You can download it from Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

How to activate your digital student ID card

You can activate your digital student ID card after downloading Tuudo and logging in with your Diak credentials. You will find your student card on the left-hand column below Diak’s logo. To activate your card, you need to add your photo to the identifier.

After activating the card, you do not need a separate Kela meal subsidy card or separate discount certificates for public transportation, such as HSL. Please note that Kela’s meal subsidy cards will only be given out in exceptional situations (e.g. exchange students).

Using Tuudo’s digital student ID card does not prevent you from using other student identifiers.

Printing on campus

You’ll find instructions for using our printers, from both Diak devices and your own, on the instructions site.
