Safe Exam Browser to be used in exams – test it well in advance

At Diak, some exams will from now on be taken using Safe Exam Browser (SEB). SEB is a browser designed specifically for exam situations. It prevents actions that could enable cheating and ensures equal exam conditions for everyone.

Your teacher will always inform you in advance if an exam requires the use of Safe Exam Browser.

What is Safe Exam Browser?

SEB is a separate application that must be downloaded and installed on your own computer before the exam. SEB only works on Windows and Mac devices. It does not work on mobile devices or Chromebooks.

Installing SEB requires elevated user rights on your device, which means it may not be possible to install it independently on, for example, a work computer.

During the exam, SEB closes any communication applications it detects and blocks various functionalities to ensure a secure exam environment.

Test SEB well before your exam

Downloading, installing and setting up SEB takes time, so it is advisable to do this well before the exam day. Downloading and installation may take about 15 minutes. After installation, your device must be restarted.

Diakle has a practice area where you can test whether SEB works correctly. There you will find detailed instructions, the SEB download link and a sample exam. It is highly recommended to try the sample exam before the actual exam. This is the only way to ensure that the software functions correctly. Activities in the practice area are not monitored. If you do not visit the Diakle practice area for seven days, you will automatically be removed from the practice course, but you can re-join at any time.

On the sample exam start page, you will see two buttons: Download Safe Exam Browser and Launch Safe Exam Browser (the latter works only after SEB has been installed). When you open the exam through SEB, you will log in to Diakle normally and complete two‑factor authentication. Your login details are not stored in SEB, so you must log in and verify your identity again at the beginning of every exam. Remember to keep your phone nearby for two‑factor authentication.
