Studying at Diak is taking a step toward a more modern and flexible daily routine as the current Diakle platform is replaced by the new Canvas learning environment. Teaching on the new platform will begin in January 2027.
The goal of the reform is to provide a clear, logical, and high-quality learning experience that better supports your learning.
What is Canvas, and what are its advantages?
Canvas is a modern online learning environment that is widely used around the world and designed to meet students’ needs. The new platform brings many improvements to everyday student life:
- Assignments, schedules, and learning materials are clearly organized in one place within the course area, so you don’t have to waste time searching for them.
- The structure and content of the courses follow a logical progression, as they are clearly organized into modules (each with its own section in the side menu where the course content can be found).
- You can submit assignments, participate in online discussions, and easily keep track of the feedback you receive as well as the evaluations of assignments and submissions in the course area.
- Staying in touch with teachers and classmates is easier than before, which makes it simpler to do group work, among other things.
- With Canvas’s student mobile app, you can keep track of your courses and study easily on your phone or other mobile device, no matter where you are.
- Canvas is updated frequently and is constantly evolving to meet the demands of modern technology and the rapid pace of change.
How does the transition take place?
The transition to Canvas will take place in a phased and controlled manner to ensure that your studies continue smoothly:
- The first Canvas courses will begin in January 2027.
- Not all courses will be transferred immediately. Diakle will remain in use alongside the new system during the transition period until the end of 2027.
- You will be notified well before classes begin in January whether your course will be held on Canvas or still on Diak.
Support and guidance available
As we transition to a new learning platform, you, as a student, will have access to a comprehensive guide and receive support in using the new system. You don’t need any prior experience with Canvas; we’ve made every effort to ensure that getting started with the new platform is as smooth as possible.
More information about specific procedures and support will be provided as the fall semester progresses. So be sure to follow Diak’s Canvas news closely!
