Projects in the disability sector

The disability sector needs professionals both now and in the future. The field is challenged by high staff turnover and limited interest in related education and training. In addition, increasingly diverse work communities in the disability sector require stronger competence that is linguistically and culturally aware.

Diak’s RDI activities raise awareness of the opportunities within disability work and develop language aware solutions for workplaces in the sector.

The aim is to strengthen employee commitment to disability sector jobs. For example, in Uusimaa the disability workforce is already diverse. Increasing labour based immigration, used as one response to labour shortages in the disability field, will diversify work communities even further. The challenges related to staff availability and retention cannot be solved overnight, and addressing them will require broader societal and even global measures.

Diak engages in multidisciplinary collaboration to develop disability work. The projects carry out communication campaigns, organise training, and develop and pilot a language immersion model for use in disability sector workplaces.

Equality benefits the whole of society

Discrimination and racism remain real challenges in the society. Studies show that employment and education opportunities are harder to access for minorities compared to the majority population in Finland. At Diak, we support individuals, professionals, and workplaces in embracing and strengthening diversity.
