Rules for users of Diak Library

These rules define the rights and responsibilities of library users. If a customer does not follow the rules, their borrowing rights will be suspended.

The library rules have been in force since 4 June 2012 and were updated in April 2026.

The library reserves the right to amend the rules when necessary. The current valid rules are available at all library service points and on this webpage.

Right of use and borrowing rights

Kirjaston käyttöoikeus on kaikilla. Lainausoikeudessa on kokoelmakohtaisia rajoituksia. Kirjastokortin saa vähintään 15-vuotias henkilö esittämällä virallisen henkilötodistuksen ja rekisteröitymällä lainaajaksi. Alle 15-vuotiaat tarvitsevat huoltajan kirjallisen suostumuksen kirjastokortin ja lainausoikeuden saamiseksi.

The library is open to everyone. Borrowing rights may be subject to collection‑specific restrictions. A library card is available to anyone aged 15 or over upon presentation of official ID and registration as a library user. Customers under the age of 15 need written consent from a guardian to obtain a library card and borrowing rights.

In accordance with Articles 13 and 14 of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (2016/679), the library is permitted to collect personal data from its customers.

Customers have the right to view their own data held by the library. Privacy notices are available in the libraries and on Diak’s data protection pages.

By accepting a library card, the customer agrees to follow the library rules. Users must prove their identity when requested. Customers are responsible for all material borrowed with their library card.

A library card is valid for five years from registration. If the card is not used, customer data will be removed after three years. If necessary, the library card will be reissued.

Changes to contact details, and lost cards

Notify the library if your contact details change.
Report a lost library card to the library immediately. Customers are responsible for all material borrowed with their card until the loss is reported. A replacement plastic library card is subject to a fee.

Loans, renewals and returns

Items may be renewed up to 20 times. Renewal is not possible if the material has been reserved by another user or if the customer has lost their borrowing rights. Items must be returned to the library from which they were borrowed. Customers cannot reserve material they currently have on loan.

Customers must pay late fees according to the service price list if borrowed items are not returned or renewed by the due date. Late fees must be paid even if the customer has not received a reminder notice.

A fee of €1 will be charged for uncollected reservations.
Borrowing rights will be suspended if the customer has accrued at least €10 in charges, if overdue items are not returned within six weeks of the due date, or if library material is lost or damaged. Borrowing rights are reinstated once overdue items are returned, lost or damaged items are compensated, and all fees are paid.

Compensation for library materials

Customers are required to compensate the library for any lost or damaged items. Compensation can be provided by supplying the library with an equivalent replacement. Contact the library for instructions. Items may also be compensated by paying the replacement cost set by the library.

The library will issue an invoice for unreturned or damaged materials. Unpaid invoices will be forwarded to a debt collection agency. This also applies to material borrowed by customers under the age of 18.

Use of e‑resources

E‑resources acquired by Diak Library are available to library customers on workstation computers located in the campus libraries. Students and staff of Diaconia University of Applied Sciences access e‑resources using their Diak login credentials.

Use of library facilities and equipment

The library offers reading and work spaces, which are available during opening hours. The library also has a self‑service period, during which customers can borrow and return items at self‑service machines and work independently in the library. The use of library computers must comply with Diak’s IT regulations.
Users must not cause disturbances in the library. The library is not responsible for personal belongings left on the premises.

The library has the right to restrict the access or borrowing rights temporarily of anyone who does not follow the rules.

Service price list

The current price list is available on the library’s website and in the library.
