The Bachelor of Health Care, Nursing degree programme at Diak prepares you to become a compassionate, highly skilled registered nurse capable of delivering high-quality patient care in multidisciplinary healthcare environments. You will acquire a skill set to operate in a variety of healthcare settings, from open counselling centres to intensive care units.
Comprehensive Theoretical Basis and Extensive Clinical Practice
The studies focus on clinical nursing, health promotion, disease prevention, pharmacology, and patient safety.
- Based on caring and nursing science, the curriculum includes multidisciplinary elements from natural sciences (such as anatomy and physiology, medicine and pharmacology) as well as social and behavioural sciences.
- A central part of the programme is practical training, which accounts for a significant share of the studies. Clinical training takes place in diverse healthcare settings across Finland, equipping you with the practical skills needed to operate in a wide variety of environments, from open counselling centres to specialized units and intensive care.
- The studies are conducted in close co-operation with working life through, for example, projects carried out both individually and in groups. Diak graduates are well employed in Finland.
- Extension studies enable you to deepen your expertise development in the specialty area of nursing. You can combine both theoretical and practical aspects in areas such as child, adolescent and family nursing or polyclinical care.
EU-Recognized Qualification and Global Career Opportunities
The degree will qualify you as a Registered Nurse with EU competence. You can choose to work with children, youth, adults or elderly in Finland, the rest of the Nordic countries or further abroad.
Finnish Language Studies
While the language of instruction is English, the programme includes mandatory Finnish language studies to support your practical training in Finnish healthcare environments and to enhance your future employment opportunities in Finland.
Finnish language requirement for applicants
Applicants are required to have skills in Finnish. The minimum requirement is level B1 on the Common European framework for languages. The Finnish skills are assessed in the entrance exam.
For the next application round (2027) admission without the Finnish language requirement is currently in preparation. The admission criteria for the next application round will be published on this page and on Studyinfo later this year.
