Expert services in interpreting and communication

We provide expert services in sign language interpreting and interpreting for people with speech impairments, including:

• Expert consultation on the communication needs of specific groups, accessible interaction, and working effectively with interpreters

• Training sessions and workshops on sign language and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) methods

• Interpreting and translation services, including:
  • Finnish Sign Language–Finnish language language pairs
  • Signed supported speech
  • Interpreting for people with speech impairments using various communication methods
  • Interpreting for deafblind individuals using different methods
  • Speech-to-text interpreting

• Accessibility services, including the production of communication materials, subtitling, plain language adaptation, and plain language training and consultancy

We provide these professional services either as:

• Student assignments supervised by a lecturer, or

• Work carried out by a lecturer or another expert

Our services are intended for anyone seeking to develop accessible communication and interaction.

We work with both private and public sector organisations, including interpreting service providers, professionals in social and health care and education, educational institutions and training organisations, projects and development initiatives, NGOs and third-sector organisations, as well as public administration bodies and decision-makers.

• We provide expert services in community interpreting, including:

• Development of teaching materials for interpreters and for professionals working with interpreters

• Training for interpreters

• Assessment of interpreters’ professional competence

• Community interpreting services

The above services are offered in less widely spoken languages in Finland (for example Arabic, Dari, Chinese, Ukrainian and Russian). The language selection varies annually.
