Library card

I am a student. How do I get a library card for Diak?

Diak students can use the Tuudo library card. You do not need to fill in a separate library card application. Follow these steps:

  • Open the Library section in the Tuudo menu.
  • Select Add card > I do not have a library card > choose your campus, create a PIN code, fill in any missing details, tick the confirmations and select Register. You no longer need a separate physical library card.
  • Your new card must be linked to your account in the Diak Finna online library so that you can place reservations and use all the library services.
  • To link your card: In Diak Finna, select Log in – Log in with your institution’s Haka ID. Enter your Diak username and password. Go to your personal details > Library cards and link the card you created in Tuudo.

With Tuudo you can:

  • borrow books at self‑service machines and service desks
  •  renew loans, track your reservations and fees
  •  check library opening hours.
  • Reservations and fee payments are made via Diak Finna.

Borrowing instructions

What are the loan periods? Can I renew items?

E‑books have varying loan periods and licence terms. Check the databases for these.

Printed materials have a loan period of 28 days. You can renew printed materials up to 20 times via Diak Finna.

Printed items can also be renewed at the library’s customer service desks, via chat or by email. Contact details are available in Diak Finna or the homepage of Diak’s library and information services.

If an item has been reserved by another customer, it cannot be renewed.

How do I reserve printed books?

You can place reservations in Diak Finna, at customer service or through Tuudo. Reservations are free of charge.

You will receive an email notification when your reserved item is ready for collection, and the notification also appears in Tuudo. Collect your reservation within five working days.

A charge of €1 is applied for uncollected or uncancelled reservations.

If you no longer need the item, cancel your reservation in Diak Finna or by email.

Once the arrival notice has been sent, you can no longer cancel the reservation yourself. Contact customer service by email.

What if my loans are overdue?

Return your loans to the library where you borrowed them. You will receive an email reminder for overdue items. Due dates are also visible in Tuudo. If you still need the items, renew them. Overdue fees follow the current price list.

Can I lend books to a friend?

You are responsible for all materials borrowed with your card. If your friend fails to return the book, you are liable for overdue fees and replacement charges. We therefore do not recommend lending items to others.

What should I do if a borrowed item is lost or damaged?

Customers must compensate for lost or damaged items.

Contact the library if you have lost a book. It is usually cheaper for both you and the library if you provide a replacement copy.

If an invoice is issued, the replacement cost is at least €50 plus billing fees. See the service price list.

How do I use e‑resources?

Diak provides e‑resources for Diak students and staff. Remember to log in to Diak Finna with your Haka credentials (your student login). LibGuides provides additional information about e‑books.

A library card is not required to access e‑resources.

Other customers may use databases at the library with visitor accounts.

How do I access Celia audiobooks?

Students with reading difficulties can borrow audiobooks from Celia, the accessible library. You need separate credentials for Celia’s online service. These are issued by your higher education library. Library staff will provide credentials and guidance. Contact the Diak campus libraries in Helsinki or Oulu.

No proof of reading difficulty is required.

Can I continue using the library after I graduate?

Diak’s library is open to everyone. When you graduate, remember to update your contact details either by emailing the library or by logging in to your Diak Finna account.

Access to Diak’s licensed e‑resources is limited to current students and staff.
