Ethical Reflections on Mental Health
Ethical Reflections on Mental Health BIP will be offered jointly by Evangelische Hochschule Bochum (Germany), VID Specialist University (Norway), Technical University of Liberec (Czech Republic) and Diaconia University of Applied Sciences (Finland).
The Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) Ethical Reflections on Mental Health (3 credits) is a unique opportunity to learn from experts and peers from different countries. The inspiring programme consists of lectures and collaborative online teamwork with an intensive week in Helsinki, Finland. The course will expose the students to different points of view, knowledge, teaching and methods as well as work practices within their field in a European and international context concerning the topic Mental health. For 2026, the BIP theme will be: “Best practices and ethical challenges on Mental Health Interventions”
Programme Content
Learning Outcomes
After completing this course, the student is able to
- Understand the model of ethical reflection and apply them to preventative, recovery-oriented and rehabilitative practices in mental health.
- Analyze mental health interventions / practices in an interdisciplinary manner and recognize possible ethical and systemic challenges.
- Engage in a collaborative and reflective dialogue with an international group of students to plan and implement a preventative intervention during the Mental Health Art Week.
- Learn how community-level interventions and participatory models contribute to a more equitable mental healthcare services.

Intensive Week in Helsinki
Schedule
19-23 May 2026 at 9:00-16:00. The detailed programme will be available on Howspace learning platform.
When making the travel arrangements, please make sure to arrive in Helsinki by 18 May and leave on Sunday 24 May. The programme will start on Tuesday morning and finish on Saturday afternoon.

Public Transportation
We recommend downloading the HSL app to buy tickets and find the routes. This app can be used also for the train from the airport to the city centre. Alternatively, you can buy day tickets (for 1-7 days) e.g. from R-kiosk. Price examples: one-way-ticket 3,20€ and 5-day-ticket 30€.
Helsinki Journey Planner is a practical tool for finding public transportation routes and schedules.
From Helsinki central railway station, the bus number 55 (departs from platform 3) stops in front of the campus building (stop Haukilahdenkatu). The journey takes 15 minutes.
Lunch
Daily lunch is available at 12-13. The price for a warm meal is 2,95€/students and 8,50€/staff.

Accommodation
Participants will take care of their own housing arrangements. Diak’s international office will send the instructions to the participants after registration.
Recommended options are Hotel Arthur, Diana Park Hostel, Cheap Sleep Hostel, The Yard and Omena Hotel. The price is 30€-50€ per person per night depending on the shared room.

For staff and students from partner institutions, participation is supported by the Erasmus+ Mobility grant.
Student Registration
Students from partner institutions
Partners will nominate their student participants by 15 February. Please contact your international office for information about the application and selection.
The selected students will register for the BIP by completing the online registration form by 13.3.2026.
