Diak adopts electronic degree certificates

Diak switches to use electronic degree certificates in March. With the reform, those who graduate after March 1, 2023 will receive their degree certificates only electronically.

An electronic degree certificate is a safer option than the paper version, as it is easier to store and certify. Many higher education institutions have already switched to electronic degree certificates.

– An electronic diploma increases the reliability of the degree certificates, speeds up getting the certificate and makes it easier to keep it, says Head of Learning Services Pia Juusela.

– Obtaining the certificate in electronic form supports the modern job search, as it is an official document and can be easily attached to, for example, job applications. It is also a more ecological choice than the paper version.

Authenticity can be easily verified

The electronic degree certificate is a document approved at the EU level and its signature meets the highest standards of the EU Commission.

The authenticity of the certificate can be easily verified using the Atomi Validator service or the validation  service of the Digital and Population Data Service Agency. The certificate is verified by uploading the file to the selected validation service.

– Forging an electronic degree certificate is significantly more difficult than a paper certificate, says Juusela.

The electronic degree certificate includes the certificate, translation, transcript(s) and Diploma Supplement. An electronic degree certificate is an official original certificate that is electronically signed by the principal. The graduate can print a copy of the diploma if they wish.

The student downloads the degree certificate from MyDiak’s Print service on the day of graduation. More detailed instructions for obtaining the certificate will be updated on the website and in MyDiak.

Those who graduated before March 1, 2023 cannot receive an electronic degree certificate.
