Diakle is the new name of Diak’s learning platform

“Diakle” has been selected as the new name of Diak’s learning platform. The jury selected the new name among around 250 entries. The new name is taken officially into use on 11th of January 2021.

– We received an enormous number of entries and we are thankful for all of them, says a member of the jury, Vice-Rector Pirjo Hakala.

The name Diakle was suggested by over 10 contributors of the name competition. It was clearly the most popular option among the entries.

A unanimous decision

The jury unanimously agreed on the name Diakle, because it combines Diak and learning.

– The syllable “le” can describe learning, ponders Olli Vesterinen, Diak’s Principal lecturer on Blended Learning and Digital Pedagogy.

In addition to Pirjo Hakala, the jury included Taija Välske, the chair of student union O’Diako and Aura Vuorenrinne, Diak’s Head of Communication.

Juridical reasons behind the name change

Diak’s learning platform is now called Moodle, although its official name is OpenLMS. In the future, Diak cannot use the name Moodle anymore because of legal reasons: Moodle is a brand name for another system.

Because the name Diakle was suggested in various writing forms from many contributors, the prize was raffled between all the contributors who left their contact information. The winner gets a product prize and will get an email from Diak’s communication team within the next few days.
