Important information about coronavirus situation in Diak

NOTE! This article has been replaced by a new version 18th March.

Diak has prepared in many ways to prevent corona virus from spreading. This message includes all the information that you have to know about the topic.

  1. Organizing the teaching

All the teaching, that is possible to make in distance, will be done in distance from 17th March. The lector responsible for the changes will make the changes straight to the timetable. You can read from the timetable, in which virtual environment or webpage the teaching will take place (Collaborate or Teams). Make sure that your equipment required for virtual teaching is working properly (internet connection, computer, headset). Diak can’t offer students it-support for their homes. If you can’t participate from home, you can come to a campus. Even in that case the teaching will be held in distance.

When you participate to distance learning, use Chrome browser. If you join the Collaborate distance learning environments, please connect the headset and other sound equipment before connecting. Make sure that the equipment’s settings are in default in the computer’s settings and only after that connect to the session.

It’s important to follow the briefing of the course in Moodle room and test your own internet connection and log in to the distance learning environment early before the beginning of the teaching. If you have problems in logging in, it’s advisable to check your own email. In email there could be more detailed instructions.

The teaching that can only be held in contact (for example health sector simulations, part of courses of the interpretation education), will be normally held in campuses. You can read from your timetable, where the teaching is. If you are part of the risk group, you are sick or have cold symptoms, you are not allowed to participate to teaching in Diak’s campuses. If you are in the risk group or you have vicinity in the risk group, please obey THL’s instructions and act in accordance of them. Diak’s campuses are open for students who are planning to study there. The territorial surveillance authority will make decisions about closing schools and it will be briefed separately.

The instructions for the remote or contact teaching will be updated in the near future.

  1. Internships

The internships will be held normally, if the employees don’t have any problems implementing them. If the employee offering the internship cancels the internship / don’t take interns, the continuation of the studies will be planned in collaboration between the individual student and the student counsellor. If the cancelling of the internship concerns a bigger student group of the internship or a particular campus, the head of education will decide with the lectors, if the internships can be replaced with other study modules, for example from the later semesters. The head of education personnel brief about these possibilities. You can take courses to your own personal curriculum also from CampusOnline.

In some cases the graduation might be delayed if internships are cancelled and there are no internship places available. The work which is equal to paid internship and its goals can possibly replace the internship. These situations will be evaluated case by case with the guiding teacher.

If a student has to go to quarantine, they will not be allowed to continue the internship or to go to a new internship during the quarantine. The interns must obey the coronavirus instructions given by the employee offering the internship.

  1. The best way to prevent the infection is to wash your hands

You can prevent the new coronavirus the same way as the other respiratory infections by taking care of good hand hygiene. Wash your hands thoroughly with water and soap for 20-30 seconds. In addition or alternatively hands can be disinfected with disinfectant. Rub disinfectant to your hands enough (3-5 mil litre) and after that rub hands dry (20-30 seconds). It’s also wise not to touch your face, as the health officials have instructed.
